About Our School

St. Charles Catholic School was constructed in 1957 by a group of dedicated parents and community members who wanted a quality Catholic Education for their children. The original building consisted of one singular classroom. Increasing student enrollment in the mid-sixties resulted in two additions to the existing school structure: a second classroom, a JK/SK room, and a resource center. In the early ’70s a final addition was added consisting of a gymnasium and two adjoining change rooms.

Over the years, the school has continued to undergo structural changes. A computer lab was added to the resource center using existing facilities, and from 2000 to 2002, a resource room, and a second computer lab was added housing 20 computers to augment existing technology. The playground has also undergone several dramatic changes: several new soccer fields, a volleyball court and play sandpit have been constructed.

By the end of the 2005-2006 academic year, our Capital Project was approved and underway. In 2006, our school community benefited from renovations of the existing structure: new boys’, girls’ and accessible washrooms, and extensive Kindergarten improvements. Three new classrooms were added and storage areas at the east aspect of the school, with our new offices, health and staff rooms facing Elizabeth Street.

A Message from the Principal

Welcome to the St. Charles Catholic Elementary School which is located in Glencoe, Ontario. Our school works closely with our parish, St. Charles Catholic Church, our Catholic School Council and our school community. We strive to create a safe and inclusive environment that is rooted in our Faith. We are committed to helping children develop physically, intellectually and spiritually. As a Catholic school, we are called to serve and to foster the teachings of the Gospel in everything that we do.

At St. Charles, students are encouraged and supported in their journey of academic excellence, Faith formation and their desire to become compassionate Christians. Our dedicated staff is committed to providing quality education and opportunities for our children to strive to be their best. Our small school is warm and welcoming and keeping an open line of communication with the parents/guardians is vital in creating a positive learning experience for all.

Yours in Christ,
Mrs. P. Gregory
Principal

Living Our Faith

The education of our students is a shared responsibility of home, school and parish. St. Charles Catholic is blessed to have a dedicated staff, who, in the spirit of faith, serve our students with a commitment for academic excellence, and nurturance of individual gifts, rooted in the Gospel and reflected in the tenets of our Catholic faith. Catholic education is distinctive in its role to form the whole child through faith formation. The Catholic Graduate Expectations guide the life roles, knowledge, skills and attitudes of graduates of our Catholic secondary schools.

Each month, we gather as a faith community to celebrate the Eucharist at our neighboring parish, St. Charles Garnier. Classroom liturgies, and the celebration of the Sacraments of First Eucharist, Reconciliation and Confirmation further our distinct identity as an educational community in Christ. Our students give witness to Catholic social teaching by promoting peace, justice, and the sacredness of human life.

Various charities benefit from the efforts of our students:
  • Holy Childhood
  • United Way
  • Canadian Cancer Society
  • Plus more!
